The website of Camping Si-Es-An
For Camping Si-Es-An, three things are very important to put out:
- The small, friendly nature of the campsite
- Nature in abundance in and around the campsite
- Location in the province of Overijssel
With this in mind, we started a search analysis. For this, Camping Si-Es-An provided input that we combined with data from Search Console and suggestions from Ahrefs analysed. This yielded a list of over 300 relevant search terms. From general terms such as 'campsite' and 'atzonder overnight' to specific terms such as 'camping in Overijssel' and 'characterful green campsites'.
We then ran a baseline measurement for these search terms. For this, we use the AWR tool. With AWR, we find out what positions the website has on all relevant search terms. We soon discovered that we did not yet have a position in Google for a group of search terms, even though we already had good informative pages for them.
Structure
Several pages had already been written for the major themes. We optimised these for search engines. What was still missing was structure between the pages onderling. Therefore, we divided all the existing pages onder according to a logical structure. So all pages dealing with Overijssel come onder 'camping Overijssel'. All pages that deal with small-scale camping come onder 'small camping'. And finally, all pages dealing with nature, tranquillity and space in the area come onder 'green camping.'
This is valuable for both visitors and search engines:
- Visitors get more information and can also find it easily.
- Search engines better understand what your website is about and what your specialisation is.
Such a structure for a theme then looks as follows:
Cornerstone content
We have promoted the three parent pages to the cornerstones the website, also known as cornerstones. On these cornerstone pages, we went into depth about the onderwerp in question. That is the cornerstone content. From these pages we have linked back to the other pages with more information on subonderwerpen. The onderwerpen that are important to Camping Si-Es-An are now the most informative pages.
Results
The strategy with cornerstone content does require you to be long-winded. First, it is a big job to shake up the structure. In addition, Si-Es-An wrote a lot of text for the cornerstone content. The effect also came slowly . But after more than a month, the first results started to show:
- We ranked with 27 new search terms in Google, including 3 in the top 10 and 3 in the top 20
- Last month there was a growth in search engine impressions of 92%
- The number of organic sessions more than doubled compared to last year
