What is Google Analytics and what are its benefits?

Google Analytics is a free and easy-to-use tool that measures how users interact with your website or app. It tracks users' behaviour, tracks the number of visitors and their location, which pages they visit, how long they stay on each page, and more. Furthermore, Google's tool can provide insight into usage habits, such as what times of day users visit most often, which new features they respond positively to and which ones need improvement. Google Analytics is the tool to track user behaviour and measure performance metrics. Read more soon!

What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is an analytics platform that lets you track user behaviour and measure performance metrics of a website or app. It is free and easy to use. The information it collects provides a lot of information for marketers and business owners. Google Analytics is mostly used to track website traffic and understand how people interact with websites and apps.

Valuable information for your marketing strategy

The onder tool gives you insight into the number of page views per visitor and the average time spent on your website. Furthermore, with an e-commerce website you get valuable information about conversions and easily set targets with Google Analytics. You can also segment users based on demographics such as gender or location. This data allows you to make informed decisions about your marketing strategy. As SEO specialist use Google's tool on a daily basis to provide new insights and further optimise websites. This along with other tools, such as Ahrefs, Google Search Console and Deepcrawl.

Why use Google Analytics?

If your website or app has a (large) number of visitors, it is important to track those visitors and understand their behaviour. With the information provided by Google Analytics, you can better understand your audience. You easily make decisions based on the data. Google Analytics offers valuable insights into user behaviour, which is useful for improving a website and increasing conversions. Furthermore, Google Analytics can help identify problems on your site, find out which pages have the highest number of visitors, and you can evaluate the effectiveness of a marketing campaign.

Understanding how users interact with your website will help you determine how to serve them better. For example, you can think of ways to improve visibility, or ways to expand the customer base. But even at a SEO migration we use Google Analytics to measure statistics both before and after migration. Furthermore, we use onder other Google Search Console, Deepcrawl, Screaming Frog and ContentKing. The latter tools are also useful for technical SEO

How can you get started with Google Analytics?

First, sign up for a free account on Google, if you don't already have one. Then you add Google Analytics to your website's backend. You do this by means of a Google Analytics tag. With this, you track the user's behaviour. This tag ensures that you have access to all the important data of your website, clearly displayed in the Google Analytics dashboard. Depending on the type of website or app you have, you can choose from several methods for verifying Google Analytics. You can also use Google Tag Manager for this purpose.

Google Analytics tracks the number of visitors, the number of pages they visit, the average time spent on the site, and other data. The mobile app tracking method is used for businesses that have an app version. This method provides onder with other data on the number of times the app is used and the number of unique users. In Google Analytics, website statistics and app statistics are clearly displayed.

Benefits Google Analytics

Every webmaster, marketer or business owner needs Google Analytics. Zonder insight into a website's statistics, it is impossible to properly analyse and optimise a website. Do you want more visitors, leads and conversions? Then statistics is the starting point of your marketing strategy. Hereonder some of the benefits of setting up Google Analytics on your website.

  • You know how many visitors visit your website, where they come from and what they do on your website. This is important data for SEO -, SEA - and conversion specialists;
  • You can increase your conversion rates by finding out which pages need improvement and which pages are already performing well;
  • You will find out the best times of day to advertise and promote new products or services;
  • You will learn how to improve your website and increase the number of website visitors
  • You can segment your visitors based on certain demographics or interest groups to better reach them in the future.
  • You can track the effectiveness of your advertising campaigns and find new ways to advertise.
  • You can track and measure the impact of your social media campaigns.

These are just a few more benefits of Google Analytics. As you can see, Google Analytics is useful not only for SEO specialists, but for any online marketer, who wants to get the most out of a website. Zonder data from Google Analytics, you don't know where the opportunities lie for a business and how to improve online findability and increase conversions.

Some statistics in Google Analytics

Hereonder some terms/statistics, which you will come across when you get started with Google Analytics:

Bounce rate: The number of visitors who left your site zonder visiting a different page from the one they landed on. This may indicate that the content is too boring or that your site is too difficult to navigate. In GA4, the bounce rate no longer exists and is called the engagement rate.

Engagement: The percentage of visitors who view multiple pages, watch videos and spend a longer time on your site. This is the opposite of the bounce rate and is called the engagement rate in Google Analytics 4. In Google Analytics universal, engagement rate does not yet exist.

New users: The percentage of visitors who visited your website for the first time during a given time period.

Revenue: The amount of money generated by your website or app. You can see in detail where the conversions come from (which page visitors come from, which country, gender and so on). For CRO specialists, Google Analytics is therefore also an incredibly valuable tool.

Of course, Google Analytics has many other features that are useful. SEO desk Onder advocates a data-driven approach and frequently uses tools such as Google Analytics and Google Search Console. We also do A/B testing to analyse whether our efforts lead to the desired effect. For this purpose, we also use Google Tag Manager, for example.

Whether it's about content or technical adjustments, it doesn't matter. Martijn briefs this in a very clear way so that it can be implemented locally or by our head office in France. [...] Since the start of our collaboration, we have achieved great results. Keep it up!

Eigenaar Kitcentrum

When your online onder venture grows, expectations often grow too, in every area. To a large extent, we were in control of SEO and its interpretation ourselves. We found out that our own "general view" was no longer sufficient, so we engaged Bureau Onder. Surprising and clear. We have built up a fine collaboration, partly because Martijn also regularly visits our office with Eline or Mariska (depending on the case), which is very valuable to us!

Martijn and Mariska make the SEO story understandable for the layman and are happy to think along with us. It is nice that there is a personal contact moment every month with an extensive report and the opportunity to talk everything through. After just a few months, Onder has already managed to achieve number 1 positions on Google with some of our webshop pages. We are very satisfied with Onder.
