What is a 307 Redirect?

A 307 redirect is a status code indicating that the resource in question has been changed or moved to a new location. A 307 redirect is an indicator of a temporary redirect. If you use a 307 redirect, your users don't have to onderake any action; they can just continue browsing and won't get any 404 page to be seen, but the referenced destination page. What does a 307 redirect mean for SEO?

With a 307 redirect, the browser receives a response with a redirect, and then makes a second request to the new source. The 307 redirect involves the temporary relocation of a page. A 307 redirect is therefore not immediately harmful to your website's SEO. However, you should always be careful not to create redirect loops or redirect chains, as this can indeed damage your SEO.

302 vs 307 redirects 

The main difference between the 307 redirect and 302 redirect is that the HTTP method remains unchanged when using a 307 redirection. For example, if the GET HTTP method has been used, the GET HTTP method is also passed one-to-one. This is not the case with the 302 redirect. Some people see the 307 redirect as the successor to the 302 redirect. 

When do you use a 307 redirect?

You can use a 307 redirect if you move or change resources, such as web pages, images or videos. For example, you might move your site to a new domain or hosting platform, or change the URL structure. In that case, you can use temporary redirects, with 307 redirects, so that your users are still redirected to the old URLs. Much more often, we see that a SEO migration using a prerelease environment and 301 redirects. 

Less common scenario 

Another, less common scenario, is that you optimise a page on your website, by removing unnecessary and irrelevant content.
