What are the three pillars within SEO? 

SEO is to improve a website's visibility in search engines, generating more traffic and ultimately more conversions or customer engagement. But what forms the basis of an effective SEO strategy? In this article, we explore the three fundamental pillars of SEO: Technical SEO, On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO. In addition, we focus on how these complement each other and how they can be optimised for maximum success. We also tell you more about our free SEO training.

1. Technical SEO: The foundation of your website

Technical SEO refers to the actions that are onderaken to optimise the building blocks of a website. This includes aspects such as site speed, mobile friendliness, indexing, crawlability, site architecture and security. A strong technical foundation is essential for both search engines and users.

Why is site speed important?

A slow website can lead to a high bounce rate, with visitors leaving the site before it has fully loaded. Fast load times improve user experience and contribute to higher search engine rankings.

Mobile friendliness and security

2. On-Page SEO: Optimisation of content and structure

On-Page SEO includes all actions taken directly on the website to improve search engine rankings. This includes things like content, titles, meta descriptions and internal links.

How do you optimise for users?

Quality, relevant content that matches the user's search intent is essential. Using the right keywords, creating attractive titles and meta descriptions, and ensuring a logical structure with internal links improves both user experience and search engine visibility.

How important are keywords anymore?

Keywords are still important in SEO, but it is essential to use them in a natural and contextually relevant way. Keyword stuffing (spamming keywords into a text) is an outdated technique and can lead to search engine penalties.

3. Off-Page SEO: Building authority and links

Off-Page SEO includes actions that take place outside your own website to improve ranking. The most well-known form of Off-Page SEO is linkbuilding, where other sites link to your website (backlinks). These links act as a kind of 'voice' of trust and authority for search engines.

How do you build links effectively?

Getting quality backlinks from authoritative websites is crucial. This can be achieved through guest blogs, collaborations, or creating content that is naturally shared, such as infographics or 1TP15Research reports.

Which is more important, quantity or quality of backlinks?

Quality is much more important than quantity. A few high-quality links from trusted websites are much more valuable than a large number of links from less relevant or low-quality sources.
